Welcome to Beneath The Façade!
This website is all about empowering Black women and girls to define their identity, experience, and future in the workplace or classroom. The first step of this process is lifting the veil that covers the multiple daily oppressions that we encounter. To avoid being labeled “that Black woman or girl,” you may elect to sit in silence or alter the way you speak or behave.
With the help of two HBCU educated female psychologists, Beneath the Façade will give you access to the vocabulary, research, personal stories, and books to guide you in defining your experiences and more importantly, your future. Through video and phone conferences, we will discuss how you can deal with microaggressions and stereotypical expectations. Likewise, Beneath the Façade offers you a space to share your truth with peers who “get it.” This space will not only validate your experiences of being a Black woman or girl in America, but will also provide you with the strategies and support to flourish and nurture your authentic self. By sharing and listening to our stories, we will delve beneath the façade.
